The European Union Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive 2002/96/EC (OJ L 37, 13.2.2003, p. 24) covers almost all EEE in such categories including:

Electronic Components
Radios
Consumer Electronics
Mobile phones
Monitoring and Control Equipment
Televisions, DVD Players
Lighting, Toys
Medical devices, Other

From 1st July 2006, new electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market in the EU shall not contain:
Lead (Pb)
Mercury (Hg)
Cadmium (Cd)
Hexavalent chromium (VI) (Cr (VI)
Certain brominated flame retardants (BFR’s)
Polybrominated biphenyls (PBB’s)
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE’s)
